Spring jig fishing can be broken up into two categories. These categories are murky water jigs and clear water jigs, and those categories can be taken into a more in-depth look at murky water or clear water jig fishing. It all depends on cover and the size of fish.
Clear Water jig Fishing
There is the finesse side and the larger side of the spectrum when clear water jig fishing, but it all depends on the size of bass you are catching. For big fish simply use a larger jig such as the Dirty Jigs HP Football Jig. It is not extremely large but it can pull out big bass. On the opposite end of clear water jig fishing I choose the Dirty Jigs Luke Clausen Finesse Jig. It is good for catching a quick limit of fish before moving on to larger bass. For the Dirty Jigs Luke Clausen Finesse Jig I add a Z-Man TRD Bugz or a Gary Yamamoto Double Tail Grub for a little more action in semi-clear water. For the HP Football Jig I use a Strike King KVD Perfect Plastic Baby Rodent 3″. Your trailer does not need a lot of action when fishing clear water because it is mainly just to give it the crawfish profile. My go to colors for these jigs are supermatt brown, go to, and green pumpkin craw. Another jig to consider if the water is stained is the Dirty Jigs HP Flipping Jig in the bever craw color.

Murky Water Jig Fishing
When fishing murky water go for a bigger profile and go for bold colors such as black and blue or hematoma. As the water gets murkier go for a bolder blue. As my trailer I use a Googan Baits Krackin’ Craw. If the water is extremely murky then use the Strike King Rage Tail Craw because of it’s exaggerated action. My favorite jig is the Dirty Jigs HP Flipping Jig. It is good for coming through cover when bass are shallow in muddy water. Normally they will follow the water rising up and follow it back down. As it grows muddier they cling to cover more such as a dock, brush piles, and pilings. Sometimes they will be so close they are up against and touching the structure. Another good murky water bait is a swim jig especially after the bass have spawned. This is because the bluegill and shad are spawning and the bass are chasing those certain baitfish. My favorite swim jig is a Dirty Jigs California Swim Jig. It has a huge hook that will never get bent out and has very good color options. My favorite trailer is a Reaction Innovations Little Dipper. It has a good action to where you do not need to twitch the jig.
